Winterbottom tops timesheets

Ford driver Mark Winterbottom has topped the timesheet ahead of this weekend’s V8 Supercar round at Symmons Plains but it was Holden’s Garth Tander who ended the day with the biggest smile.Winterbottom stormed to the fastest ever touring car lap at the tight 2.4km track – 51.608s – to shade Tander by .3s with the Ford of Steven Johnson third.

Tander leads the championship by just 20 points from Craig Lowndes in a Falcon with third-placed Jamie Whincup in another Ford a further nine points back.

Aiming for his third successive round win at the circuit, Tander achieved the first step by distancing himself from his main rivals in the category.

Lowndes could manage no better than eighth fastest in practice while Whincup was a lowly 14th, almost a second off the pace.

Tander, contented with second spot, also revealed he could and should have gone quicker.

“I think our car was actually a fair bit better than the time that we did,” Tander said.

“The second set of tyres that we put on at the end there didn’t grip up as much as we expected.

“I think the car is a lot better and certainly it was fantastic straight out of the truck.

“We did a 52.2s on our first set of tyres after about 40 laps so I think we should have been well into the low 51s on that second run, but it wasn’t to be.

“But we were second and in front of all the guys we are fighting for the championship and that’s what we’re looking at,” he said.

Tander dismissed the mathematical possibility he could wrap up the championship this weekend with only one round, at Phillip Island remaining.

“It’s a massive longshot and really it’s not something that I’m thinking about at all because for it to actually take place a fair bit has to happen – I think I have to win all the races and the other guys have to basically score nothing so that’s not likely to happen.

“But if I do my very best hopefully that will get us to where we need to be by Phillip Island.”

Winterbottom, who snared his first solo round win in Bahrain two weeks ago, declared he would tactically stay out of the title battle but was targeting more race wins.

“I’d rather be fighting for the championship but it’s a good position to watch from,” he said.

“Our goal is to go out and try to stay on top and win the round and if we can do that we’ve still got a lot to achieve for the rest of the year, but it’s going to be interesting to watch the four guys fight it out,” he said.

Like Tander, Winterbottom is convinced he has not seen the ultimate in performance from his car yet.

“The car’s obviously pretty strong and it was a reasonably good lap but you only have to make one mistake and it’s a tenth of a second here which could be four positions,” Winterbottom said.

“But I think there’s a bit left in it for tomorrow.”

Doing more for less does not necessarily mean having great technology. More depends on managing time effectively so that not only productivity goes up but organizations are able to plan each task and at the same time get a clear idea of the concise amount of work completed at any given point of time.

The timesheet management module in the recently launched CAMeLEAN®PM, a program management solution from Bangalore-based Ranal Software Solutions, a Ranal Group company, is an integral component of a program management tool.

Timesheets are used by organizations not only to track time utilized by each employee, manage online timesheet approvals and billing but also track and monitor non-project related work to collect data for analysis.

When each employee keys in the data to record the amount of work that he/she has done on a daily basis, it primarily serves a dual purpose. Bangalore, Karnataka, India, February 23, 2007 — The timesheet management module in the recently launched CAMeLEAN®PM, a program management solution from Bangalore-based Ranal Software Solutions, a Ranal Group company, is an integral component of a program management tool.

One, the project manager is able to obtain online information about the project – both in terms of the each team member’s performance as well as the status of the entire project as against the original plan.

“With our data capture ability, we can extrapolate and find out when the project is likely to be completed. Through this data the organization can also utilize its resources better. In case the project is behind time, workers can be added to get it on track or if it is ahead of time some team members could be removed and placed in another project,” says Mr Vijay Kumar Vice- president Ranal Software Solutions.

On the other hand, the timesheet module can also be used to calculate the cost of any future project through its in-depth data capture and analytic functionalities.

Today, timesheet management is becoming a crucial issue in organizations. Compared to 1999-2000 timeframe when companies had a price cushion to absorb project overruns, today’s environment is entirely different. The current wages and slashed pricing scenario along with a highly competitive environment had ensured that no such cushion for overruns exists. “Today, projects have to be completed as per the estimate. The margins are slashed by 50% and every company is extremely sensitive to time overruns. If it gets a project for 1000 hours it has to ensure that it completes it in 1000 hours to maintain its wafer-thin margins,” he explained.

Getting Employees to Use Timesheet Software

In an earlier blog, I discussed why people hate timesheets. Now, let’s look at ways to overcome this resistance.

Education and Buy-In: The most effective way to get people to do something is to make sure they understand what’s in it for them. In the case of payroll for hourly workers, the desire to get paid provides the incentive. In the case of billing automation, it’s revenue for the company (i.e. a successful company). Most people can understand this, and they care about the success of their company.

Project accounting is more abstract. If done badly, it can lead to unnecessary overtime, stressful blown schedules, bad estimates and cancelled projects. Relating specific examples from your company in which good time collection could have prevented problems helps to get employees on board.

Adoption Dashboard:It helps to include graphs that clearly illustrate which departments and people are entering their time consistently and completely, and which are not. This helps managers understand early on who they need to badger about getting their time recorded, or who to reward for doing a good job in this area.

Phased Rollout: Adopting a multiphase rollout approach that leads to per-person per-project profitability allows you to change the culture in more manageable steps.
Incentives: Linking bonuses or other benefits with complete data collection is often used in customer relationship management (CRM) tools to adjust sales commissions. The same can be done for other forms of data collection. My company, Journyx Inc., has a patent—we call it the ‘frequent flyer patent’—for automatically rewarding your employees on your behalf for timely time reporting.

Email Reminders: Getting an automated reminder when your time has not yet been recorded produces results…usually!

Implementing Project Accounting: If you have more than five people in your organization and they are working on many projects or within many processes, it is time to start thinking about implementing time tracking. If you have 100 people in an R+D group and you’re not tracking time, then you’re wasting the lives and work of a significant percentage of your employees. You might have them working on projects that the market will not reward you for, which are over budget or otherwise in the ditch, and you don’t know that today.

Nakano Tops The Timesheet At Jerez

2006-03-13

Kawasaki‘s Shinya Nakano blitzed his way to the top of the timesheet at Jerez today, in front of Spanish race fans who‘d turned out in their thousands to get a sneak preview of the MotoGP riders ahead of the opening race of the season at Jerez in three weeks time.

With race conditions likely to be similar to those of today, Nakano started his test programme working with Bridgestone to identify potential race tyres, before running a race distance simulation to confirm their initial selection early in the afternoon.

The 28-year-old Kawasaki rider also used the 27-lap endurance run to evaluate the latest revisions to the fuel injection system on his Ninja ZX-RR engine, designed to improve driveability around the technically demanding Jerez circuit.

Late in the afternoon session Nakano returned to the track with a qualifying tyre fitted to his Ninja ZX-RR, lapping the 4.432 km Jerez circuit more than half-a-second faster than his fifth place qualifying time from the race here last year, and almost the same distance ahead of his nearest rival today, Loris Capirossi.

Nakano declared himself happy with today‘s performance, but still keen to see further improvements during tomorrow‘s final day of testing.

Hot on Nakano‘s heels was his Kawasaki teammate, Randy de Puniet, who set the fourth fastest time today, despite still suffering with the toothache that caused him so many problems during the opening day at Jerez yesterday.

De Puniet, who was running today on a slightly older specification engine than Nakano, started with tyre testing for Bridgestone, working his way through a number of different compounds and profiles on the rear of his Ninja ZX-RR.

The 25-year-old Frenchman also evaluated different fuel injection and engine management settings, in a bid to better control the bike when hard on the throttle out of the turns.

De Puniet will run a race simulation tomorrow afternoon, after his endurance run today was cut short after just 24 laps due to problems with rear traction on his Ninja ZX-RR.

Shinya Nakano: 1st – 1‘40.047 (70 Laps) “It‘s been a hard day today, because we‘ve been testing specifically for the race here in three weeks time, so it was good to finish with the fastest time. This morning we tested quite a few tyres from Bridgestone and then in the early part of the afternoon we ran a 27-lap race simulation to confirm tyre choice for the race, when we think conditions will be fairly similar. Late in the session we put a qualifying tyre in the bike to test, and it was on this tyre that I set the fastest time of the day. In the new Ninja ZX-RR we have a very competitive package, and I‘m confident that we will unlock more of the bike‘s potential in the future, but for now we have found a combination of engine performance, chassis settings and tyres that, together, suit the characteristics of the Jerez circuit very well. We still have some decisions to make about our race tyre selection, so we will continue with tyre testing tomorrow.”

Randy de Puniet: 4th – 1‘40.839 (89 Laps) “If someone had told me back in October that I‘d finish the second day of the Jerez IRTA test fourth fastest, I would not have believed them. I feel really comfortable on the bike and it‘s working well here in Jerez, just as it has at all the pre-season tests. I still had some pain from my tooth, but it‘s more of a dull ache today and it wasn‘t such a distraction on the bike. We‘ve covered a lot of ground today, made some more improvements to the bike, and I‘m happy with my lap time. Tomorrow we hope to test the same specification engine as Shinya, but it depends on whether the parts get here in time; they are stuck in Madrid at the moment I understand. Either way, new parts or not, I hope we can continue to improve, both the bike and my lap time, during tomorrow‘s final day of testing.”

Harald Eckl: Team Manager “I‘m sure that many people seeing Shinya‘s name at the top of the timesheet, and Randy‘s just three places further back, will think that it‘s some kind of miracle given our results over the past three years. In reality, our performance today is a direct result of all the hard work put in by Kawasaki, the team, the riders and also Bridgestone during winter testing. I hope that we will be able to carry this momentum into the first race and come away with a good result, because there is no better way to start the season.”

Multiforce Technologies Selects Tenrox Timesheet to Reduce their Billing Cycle and Improve Cash Flow

Monday April 10, 10:06 am ET

PASADENA, CA, April 10 /PRNewswire/ – Tenrox, the leading provider of workflow-driven timesheet solutions, today announced that systems integrator Multiforce Technologies has purchased Tenrox Timesheet for Time & Billing in preparation for the company’s anticipated growth. Tenrox was selected for its tight integration capabilities with Multiforce’s ACCPAC accounting system, its workflow-driven time, expense and billing controls, as well as its out-of-the- box executive dashboards and analytics.

Previously, Multiforce relied on a manual time and expense capture process, which was both labor-intensive and prone to inaccuracies in billable hours and invoicing, that led to lengthy invoice review and approval cycles. Prior to selecting Tenrox Timesheet, Multiforce evaluated and eliminated several other solutions due to the lack of flexibility or specific functionality required, such as the ability to define, establish and implement policies for time and expense reporting.

“We recently signed several multi-year IT projects including some government contracts, and we expect to double in size, with respect to projects and resources, within the next six months,” said Eric Giroux, V.P. of Operations at Multiforce. “As a result, we needed a project reporting system that could accommodate this anticipated growth. Tenrox offered the best value as a completely integrated workflow-based time, expense and invoicing system. It will help us centralize and automate the tracking of billable work, project status and ongoing cost/revenue updates, with the ultimate goal of reducing our billing cycle and improving cash flow.”

Upon completion of the implementation, Multiforce expects to create and approve invoices more quickly, thereby reducing its billing cycle from a typical ten days to one or two days. Tenrox will also enable Multiforce to run two or three billing cycles simultaneously on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis to accommodate varying contractual billing arrangements with each Multiforce client. This flexibility, and a significantly shorter billing cycle are expected to have a marked improvement on the company’s cash flow.

By April/May 2006, we expect the Tenrox Timesheet solution to be fully integrated with our company’s ACCPAC system. Once completed, the implementation will eventually include integration with the payroll component of the accounting system.
